Van driver killed in three-vehicle crash
KOTA KINABALU: A van driver died while another man sustained serious injuries in an accident involving three vehicles at Kampung Kesagaan near Pitas, yesterday.
Kota Marudu District Police chief Supt Mohd Izaan Abdullah said Muksin Mambong, 40, succumbed to his injuries at Pitas Hospital at 7.55 pm.
He said the seriously injured man aged 32 was the driver of a timber truck.
In the incident around 3 pm, a woman who was driving a four-wheel-drive vehicle escaped unhurt, he said.
Izaan said initial investigations found that the truck loaded with logs, was heading to Pitas from Kota Marudu when the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into the opposite lane before overturning and colliding with a van which then hit the 4WD.
He said Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue personnel had to extricate the two victims.
Meanwhile in Kota Kinabalu, a Toyota van driver managed to crawl out from his vehicle after it flipped and landed on its side after it colliding with a Perodua Myvi car at Jalan Tungku Abdul Rahman, under the Karamunsing flyover here on Friday.
A statement from the State Fire and Rescue Department in Sembulan said five personnel, including an officer, responded to the 8.50pm incident and arrived at the scene within minutes.
EMRS attended to the victim and gave early treatment at the scene before he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the Perodua Myvi was also given treatment but walked away with only minor injuries.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident and the operation ended at 9pm the same day.
