KOTA KINABALU: United Pasok Momogun KadazanDusun Murut Organisation (Upko) Acting President Dato Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau yesterday welcomed State Assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Johnson Tee and all other ex-Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) division leaders who quit the party to join Upko.

“It is my honour to personally welcome ex-PBRS secretarygeneral Datuk Johnson Tee, and ex-PBRS division leaders to join the Upko family,” he said.

“I want to congratulate you on making a good decision and I see this as an endorsement of the Momogun society to accept Upko as the party of choice.

“I take this opportunity to encourage all members of the party and all Sabahans to speak up for Sabahans,” Madius, who is Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Trade and Industry, said in a statement.

Wilfred reckoned that Upko, which quit the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition after the 14th general election on May 9, is the platform for everyone under the newly formed State Government of Parti Warisan Sabah-Pakatan Harapan.

“By bringing together likeminded individuals to work together as a collective voice to influence and to contribute in public-policy making, Upko looks forward to not only be the voices of Sabahans, but more importantly, Upko will continue to serve the people and to listen to the people’s opinion,” he said.

Wilfred gave an assurance that Upko would continue to provide the space and platform for every member to speak up as one of the ways to strengthen the party.

“We believe in incorporating everyone into the fabric of our work and struggle, so that everyone can participate and feel the sense of ownership, to be part of the success of the party.

“Only by garnering more support, I believe that we can fight better for Sabahans. I believe that Johnson and all the new members of the party will be able to contribute towards the party struggle.

“‘I believe in uniting the community. Moving forward, our key priorities is to unite, and to empower the Momogun societies through socioeconomic development and socio-cultural development,” he said, adding that Upko would continue to welcome all Sabahans who share the same vision as the party.
