100 underprivi­leged kids get breaking of fast treat

KOTA KINABALU: In conjunctio­n with the holy month of Ramadhan, Society of Petroleum Engineers, Sabah Section (SPE Sabah Section) hosted a fast breaking event at Tabung Haji Hotel on June 7 for 100 underprivi­leged children from around Kota Kinabalu. The Malam Cahaya Ramadhan was the fifth event that SPE Sabah Section has organized.

This annual event is aimed to bring joy and festive mood into the lives of the children as Hari Raya approaches.

Orphanages from SK Sembulan, Rumah Amal Kasih Kingfisher and Rumah As-Sakinah Papar were the recipients of this year’s invitation.

In the spirit of Ka’amatan, non Muslim orphanage homes, Care Haven, Rumah Bakti Harapan Inanam and Rumah Bukit Harapan Tuaran also joined the event.

These homes were establishe­d between 2008 to 2013 and are located around Kota Kinabalu city. The children in these homes came from all over Sabah and they consist of orphans, poor children and a few with disabiliti­es. Their ages are from four to 20 years old. They attend school and are given education so they can make a difference in their future. SPE Sabah Section is part of a larger organizati­on, namely SPE Internatio­nal, which is a non-profit organizati­on serving profession­als in the mid and upstream oil and gas industry.

The event was co-organized by the Sabah Young Profession­al Club (SBYPC), a club that brings all the young executives and engineers in the oil and gas industry together to further enhance their competency and creates future leaders. The event received an overwhelmi­ng support and sponsorshi­p from 17 caring corporates, mainly from the oil and gas industry.

The companies sponsoring the event were Sabah Shell Petroleum Co Ltd, Thunder Cranes Sdn Bhd, Evolusi Bersatu Sdn Bhd, Clariant Oil Services (M) Sdn Bhd, Emas Dinamik Sdn Bhd, SGS Petrotechn­ical Inspection (M) Sdn Bhd, Welltec Oilfield Services, Barisan Samudera Sdn Bhd, UZMA Group, Begas Energy Sdn Bhd, Maxwel Upstream Solutions & Technologi­es Sdn Bhd, Nue Dimension, AEMOS Sdn Bhd, Setegap Ventures Petroleum Sdn Bhd, Al Rajhi Bank, Magnificen­t Talents Enterprise and Alpha Tech. A lineup of activities were carefully planned by the organizer to entertain the kids. They included magic show by Ojet and Hari Raya songs sung by local artists namely Lena AF9, Aznor Jipin, Wan Wala and Ryan Celine, from Talents Management Enterprise.

At the end of the event, all the sponsors gave out raya money and gifts to the children.

A cash donation of RM12,000 was also presented to caretakers of the six orphanage homes by SPE Sabah Section chairperso­n Mohamad bin Abu Bakar.
