KOTA KINABALU: The festive mood is in the air with shoppers hunting for Hari Raya items at the KK Raya Fest at Imago Shopping Mall.

Organising chairperson of the event, Bibie Doughty said there are 20 vendors collaborating for the 10-day raya bazaar at the mall’s basement offering various services and products related to Hari Raya.

“It is normal for many Sabahans to prepare their Hari Raya items months before Ramadhan, where some of them ordered online or bought it from overseas.

“But do not be surprised that some families prefer to shop last minute due to work commitments. We have been organising bazaars for many years and last minute shopping is real,” she said to The Borneo Post when interviewed.

Bibie is the co-founder of KK Legasi, a well-known event organiser in the city, specialising in bazaars.

This time around, KK Legasi not only gathered Sabah brands but famous national brands under one roof to give options to Sabahans who choose to do their shopping at the last minute.

Vendors for KK Raya Fest are Majeedah Wraps, Bella Tamani, Naelofar Hijab, Arita Hijab, Nelly, Bwosz Kwoo, Sirnasin, Jakarta Mode, House of Tudung, Fira Fashion, Bawal Exclusive, Wenn, Home Baker, Chiqas Closet, Pijut Closet, Dieyaliciois, Trendy Sumandak, Zuzue and Cabrine Solibun Art.

Lina Mujib of Home Baker from Putatan said her Raya biscuits almost sold out every day since the first day of the bazaar last week.

“We have various flavours of home-made Raya biscuits such as shrimp popia, batang buruk, chocolate chips and many more.

“This is my second year selling biscuits dan cookies during Hari Raya and it is normal to receive orders as early as the first day of the fasting month until the very last minute,” she said.

A final-year student from UMS, Shazlenn Saidi said she was busy with her final exam and assignment, and a bazaar like this is something she was always excited to go.

“I haven’t found the perfect baju kurung yet, and I know it is cheaper if I buy from a bazaar like this. The sellers normally give discounts.

“I have been following KK Legasi’s social media so I only need to browse from the internet to make sure what I want is available before coming here. I don’t have to waste time going around because I already know where to go,” she said.

Shazlenn was spotted with her brother, Sulaiman at the bazaar yesterday.

Trader Afizah Jislih, who is selling women clothing and accessories for the first time said she never expected such a crowd for Hari Raya items.

“Business is good during Hari Raya, and I don’t think I have enough stock until the end of this bazaar next week,” she said.

Another shop selling women’s wear such as tudung, kebaya, skirts and shoes was packed with shoppers.

KK Raya Fest started last Monday until June 13, a day before Hari Raya.

Hari Raya is expected to be on June 14.
