Comply fully to price control scheme, or face stern action, traders reminded

SARIKEI: Local traders are reminded to adhere fully to the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperativ­es and Consumeris­m (KPDNKK)'s Festive Season Price Control Scheme 2018.

In this regard, items listed under this scheme must be sold more than the set ceiling prices.

For this year's Hari Raya Aidilfitri season until June 22, there are 17 price-controlled items under the scheme comprising various categories of chicken, beef and fish, eggs, chillies, tomatoes, cabbage, coconuts, shallots, big onions, garlic and potatoes. According to a statement issued by KPDNKK Sarikei, the ceiling retail price for live chicken has been fixed at RM7.80 per kilogramme, standard chicken (RM9/ kilogramme), super chicken (RM9.50/ kilogramme), imported beef (RM27/ kilogramme), Grade A/B/C eggs (39/38/37 sen each, respective­ly), red chillies (RM15/ kilogramme), tomatoes (RM7/ kilogramme), whole coconuts (RM5/ kilogramme), imported round cabbage (RM4/ kilogramme), garlic (RM8/ kilogramme), shallots (RM6/ kilogramme), imported onion (RM4.50/ kilogramme), imported potatoes (RM4/ kilogramme), ‘tenggiri' or mackerel (RM11/ kilogramme), and ‘selayang’ or scad (RM9/ kilogramme).

“Stern action in accordance with Price Control and AntiProfit­eering Act 2011 would be taken against those (traders) found to have breached the regulation,” it warned.

As provided under the Act, errant traders are liable to be compounded on the first count; and a fine and imprisonme­nt for the second and subsequent offences.
