-

KOTA KINABALU: A 27-yearold Filipina was jailed for a year by the Sessions Court here yesterday for possessing a fake IMM13 document.

Judge Azreena Aziz imposed the sentence on Alyn Salam who admitted to committing an offence under Section 56 (1)(l) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The indictment carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to five years, upon conviction.

She was found to have the fake document at an apartment here at 2.45am on May 22.

In mitigation, the unrepresented Alyn prayed for a lenient sentence as she has two small children to support, but the prosecution requested for a deterrent sentence to be imposed on her.

Meanwhile at the same court, 23 men and four women were jailed between four and six months for entering the state illegally.

The judge imposed the sentence on the foreigners, aged between 18 and 56, yesterday, after they pleaded guilty to each of their charges under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The indictment provides for a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to 12 months or both and whipping of not more than six strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

In mitigation, some of the accused informed the court that they had worked as labourers, fishermen and selling things at a night market.

The court also ordered some of the men to be whipped once while others were spared due to their age and gender.

All of the foreigners, including Alyn, were also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving their sentences for their biometrics data to be recorded before deportation.
