FCK United are Kaamatan Superveteran champions
KOTA KINABALU: FCK United emerged as champions of the Kaamatan Superveteran Challenge Football Tournament which was held at the Penampang Stadium on Sunday.
They beat hot favourites Tuaui 2-0 after dominance over the latter team proved fruitless without luck on their side.
Tuaui mounted numerous attacks while dominating the possession and despite controlling most of the game they failed to make their chances count.
Instead it was FCK United that managed to score 15 minutes into the match.
Yap Teck Kong took advantage of a slight defensive error to take his team into the lead.
Tuaui later tried hard to stem the tied but were met with disappointment and good goalkeeping.
In their efforts to push bodies forward, Tuaui were eventually caught between the lines giving Yap another chance to pounce. He scored again to seal the win for his team.
Earlier FCK United edged Kapayan Supervet on penalties, while Tuaui beat TVFC (Tenghilan) 2-0 in the other semi-final match.
Other teams that took part in the eight-team invitational tournament were SSS, Kobusak, PPP and RRB.
The tournament was organised by Penampang Unity Football Club in conjunction with the annual Harvest Festival celebrations.
The club’s vice president Donald Masudal presented the prizes to the winners on behalf of president Richard Jomiji.
Towards this end, tournament organiser Edwin Jomiji thanked all the teams and players for competing in the event.
