BELURAN: A 29-year-old woman was killed while four others, including two children, sustained serious injuries when the car they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a concrete drain wall on Saturday at around 1.30 pm near Kilometre 11 of Beluran road.

Beluran police chief Superintendent Sivanathan Velautham confirmed the mishap and said that the dead victim was identified as Warda binti Faisal.

The seriously injured were driver of the car, Azman bin Tahal, 23, his brother Azmir bin Tahal, 22, Nurul Kiki Natasha binti Azmi, 20, and two children - Norafizah binti Pineh, 11, and Zafirah binti Saiful Bahri, six.

“Initial investigation found that the car was on its way from Beluran to Sandakan when the driver reportedly lost control and caused the vehicle to skid and crash into a concrete drain wall before it overturned several times. Two of the passengers were thrown out of the car.

“All the injured persons were rushed to Beluran Hospital by ambulance for immediate medical attention, while Warda died at the scene after succumbing to severe head and body injuries,” Sivanathan said.

He added that it was found that the driver did not possess a driving licence, but was not suspected to be drunk or on drugs.

“Following investigation at the scene, the police believed that the driver was driving too fast and failed to control the vehicle which led to the mishap,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
