Local creative industry players wants CEP to uplift local art works

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A local arts activist has proposed to the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) to take local art works to greater heights, especially the short animated production of Upin & Ipin.

During a meeting with the council, Les Copaque Production owner-cum-director, Burhanuddin Md Radzi, who is also producer of Upin & Ipin, suggested among others, the setting up of a Upin & Ipin theme park to attract more tourists to the country.

“Upin & Ipin is an intelectual property. It can be adapted not only through cartoon, but is also capable of creating other business opportunities,” he said, adding that the man obstacle to realising this was financial constraint.

He was speaking to reporters yesterday, after a meeting between players in the local creative industry and CEP at Menara Ilham here.

Burhanuddin said the world of animated film was large and required support from the government to uplift the works of local art works.

Les Copaque Production is currently collaborating with China in its latest film production on Upin & Ipin for it to be screened in the republic.

Burhanuddin said local television stations should also support efforts to uplift local works of art.

“TV9 no longer buys Upin & Ipin production this year because there is no allocation for the purpose, hence, we send our work to Indonesia,” he added.
