MGA leads Malaysian delegation to world’s largest gas conference
KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Gas Association (MGA), the lead advocate for the nation’s natural gas industry and a member of IGU’s Executive Committee, will be representing Malaysia at the 27th World Gas Conference (WGC 2018).
The MGA will be leading a delegation of members and key industry players to exchange information on the significant developments and challenges impacting the global gas industry.
Themed ‘Fueling the Future’, the conference is organised by the International Gas Union (IGU) and will be held in Washington DC from June 25 to 29, 2018, gathering over 12,000 influential leaders, policy-makers, financers and innovators from more than 100 countries to raise the voice of natural gas with timely updates on strategic, commercial and technical issues facing the entire gas value chain.
The Malaysian contingent will have a strong presence at WGC 2018 including 14 speakers, with MGA’s Patron and Petronas’ President and Group chief executive officer, Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin delivering a keynote session on “What Next for the Asia Pacific Gas Market?” and MGA’s president, Hazli Sham Kassim speaking at a panel session on “Public Perception: Our Reputation Matters”.
Commenting on the upcoming event, Hazli said, “MGA has always been an active participant in WGC, having had the honour of hosting WGC 2012, the first in Southeast Asia, which is often described as one of the most successful WGCs.
“MGA looks forward to leading the delegation with our Patron helming a key session on mapping Asian’s future gas demand and the role of natural gas in the energy mix.”
“With a wide array of topics presented by international industry leaders, WGC is the perfect platform for MGA members to discover the latest innovations in the gas sector and explore how we can implement these developments to facilitate the growth of Malaysia’s natural gas industry and further drive socio-economic progress,” he concluded.
As the largest and most highprofile triennial event held over the past 87 years, conducted “by the industry, for the industry”, WGC will this year see representatives from companies such as Petronas, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Qatar Petroleum, BP, Total, ConocoPhillips and Shell.
