Man jailed for stealing girlfriend’s handbag

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate’s Court sent a 36year-old man to prison for three years for stealing his girlfriend’s handbag.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus imposed the punishment on Rosdin Talip, who pleaded guilty to committing the crime in the parking lot of a hypermarket in Inanam, on January 28 this year around 6pm.

He confessed to stealing the bag, containing two branded watches, Guardian Pharmacy store keys, Guardian Pharmacy safety box keys, one MyKad, one RHB Bank ATM card and RM2,900 cash from the victim’s car.

The offence under Section 379 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine, or both, on conviction.

The facts of the case stated that Rosdin stole the handbag after entering his girlfriend’s car from the back bonnet.

He was apprehended by authorities on April 22 around 5.40pm, in front of a hotel in Sepanggar.

During investigation, Rosdin admitted to stealing the bag and told the police that he had sold the watches and used the cash. He was only left with the ATM card.

In a separate case, the court fixed July 11 this year for case management of a man charged with stealing a woman’s mobile phone.

The magistrate fixed the date for Mohammed Haniff Adam, 32, who denied stealing the phone at a private hospital on June 16.

If he is found guilty under Section 380 of the Code, Haniff may be liable to jail time which may extend to 10 years and a fine.

Pending case management, he was released on RM4,000 bail with two local sureties.
