School donates to Don Bosco Children’s Home

KOTA KINABALU: Students representing Kinabalu International School’s (KIS) Charity Committee recently met with a representative from the Don Bosco Children’s Home in Ranau to present a cheque for RM3,000 to help provide support with their daily living needs.

The funds was raised through a charity Christmas Fair, held on December 12 at the school.

The Christmas Fair was arranged by students from both the primary and secondary schools who serve on the Charity Committee.

The students are tasked with arranging events and activities that can raise funds and support those in need and less fortunate than themselves.

Sharon Rose, the school’s Charity Committee Liaison Officer, said the students did a wonderful job of organising a funfilled family afternoon where the KIS community came together for games and activities and to enjoy an opportunity to meet Santa and to purchase from a wide selection of stalls.

The students wanted to use the proceeds from the fair to support other children and therefore picked the Don Bosco Children’s Home, which cares for over 70 children ranging from 7-18 years old from all over Sabah.

“At KIS we are focused on developing successful global citizens and being a member of the Charity Committee is just one of the many opportunities available for our students that encourages them to think and act with empathy for others,” said Sharon.
