TUARAN: The Sabah Trade and Industry Ministry is currently conducting a study to create a sustainable industry for each district in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said the ministry would be visiting a number of districts soon.

“Initially, we will hold a ‘Tamparuli Fest’ in Tuaran district next month, which will be launched by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

“Through the festival, I hope people in Tuaran will get to see the various opportunities in entrepreneurship and business,” he said while launching a Pesta Kaamatan celebration at Kampung Bongol near here on Thursday.

Madius who is also Sabah Trade and Industry minister said the oil and gas industry in Sipitang was currently being developed while a study on a similar endeavour was being carried out in Kudat.

“The ministry will also develop the downstream industry for palm oil, particularly in the east coast of Sabah, and upgrade the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park to provide job and business opportunities for the locals. We are bringing in a number of companies who want to build factories here,” he said.

Meanwhile, Madius who is also Tuaran member of parliament, said the constituency’s service centre was being restructured.

“We have yet to appoint staff to man the centre. For now, the people can contact me directly should the need arise,” he said.

In another development, he said Village Security and Development Committees, village chiefs and native chiefs would continue to play their respective roles until a new system is introduced by the state cabinet.

He urged the people against making or believing speculations on the review of the present system which is being undertaken to enhance village level developments and service delivery to the people. - Bernama
