KOTA KINABALU: The 27-yearold man who attempted to flee after being brought to court for attempting to stab his father with a weapon, will know his fate on June 28.

Ghulam Hassan Alih was ordered to be brought before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus for facts and sentencing.

The accused was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, for supposedly trying to stab his 73-year-old father with a knife after his demand for money was rejected.

When brought before the magistrate yesterday, Ghulam maintained his guilty plea of attempting to stab his father in a house at Kampung Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya, on May 7 around 11pm.

Upon conviction, Ghulam is liable to imprisonment for up to three years or a fine or whipping, or any of the two punishments.

On his earlier court date on May 22, Ghulam pleaded guilty to the charge but had his sentencing deferred, pending the victim’s medical report.

Ghulam had also attempted to flee the courtroom, but he was stopped by police a few metres away.

According to the medical report, the victim suffered a swollen left cheek as a result of the attack, in addition to sustaining abrasions to his ear.

It was also learned that the victim lodged a police report claiming the accused frequently assaulted him when the latter’s demand for money was not met.

On June 20, Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie meted out a 12-month jail term to Ghulam, on another charge of hurting his father with a wooden plank.

The accused was convicted under Section 323 of the Code, which carries imprisonment for up to a year or a fine, or both.

Inspector Albert Basirin prosecuted the case.
