Seven illegals jailed

KOTA KINABALU: Five men and two women were jailed by the Sessions Court here, on separate counts of illegal entry.

Judge Azreena Aziz imposed the sentences on Mohammad Ilyasin Abdullah, Abdullah Madsalih, Armin Jumani and Nhur Shiela Usani, who each received four months for violating Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigratio­n Act 1959/63.

Meanwhile, Kamal Karim, Boy Awang Amint Awie and Sofiah Akmaran were ordered to serve five months behind bars for committing a similar offence.

On conviction, each accused person is liable to a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonme­nt for a term which may extend to five years or both, in addition to whipping of not more than six strokes.

Arman was given one stroke of the cane while the other accused are to be referred to the Immigratio­n Department, following their release.

The cases were prosecuted by ASP Sabrina Jinius.

In another court, two men were jailed 10 months for consuming syabu, while another man was jailed eight months for possessing the drug.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus imposed the sentences on Samuel Labo Pur, Marisnin Apih and Rusmin Abd Amin, respective­ly, following each of their guilty pleas to contraveni­ng the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

On conviction of Section 15(1)(a) of the Act, Samuel and Marisnin could both be liable to a maximum RM5,000 fine or up to two years’ jail, while Rusmin faces a fine of up to RM100,000 or prison not exceeding five years, or both, for the offence under Section 12(2).

Upon serving their sentences, Samuel and Marisnin will also be liable to two years’ supervisio­n by relevant authoritie­s.
