Two arrested over burglary at Jamal’s house

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two suspects connected to the break-in of controversial politician Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos’ house in Ampang Jaya.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Hamzah Alias said that the arrests were made on Wednesday (June 20) and Thursday (June 21).

“One suspect was arrested in Paroi, Negri Sembilan while the other was apprehended in the Ampang Jaya area,” he said yesterday.

They have been remanded for seven days until June 27 and June 28 respectively.

Last Sunday (June 17), four burglars entered Jamal’s house and took items such as cellphones, clothes, sunglasses and handbags.

It was previously reported that Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat had said that the four men claimed to be Jamal’s bodyguards who had not been paid for their services.

Two arrest warrants have since been issued for Jamal for other issues.

On May 25, he had pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing public nuisance by smashing beer bottles in front of the Selangor state secretariat building in Shah Alam on Oct 5, 2017.

The proceedings were conducted at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur where Jamal was undergoing treatment for back pain.

However, he was reported missing from the hospital at 5.30pm the same day by the Shah Alam Court Registrar who handled his bail documentation process.

The Ampang magistrate’s court on June 1 issued a warrant of arrest against Jamal under Section 224 of the Penal Code for escaping from detention.

On June 7, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said that Jamal was believed to have fled to Indonesia using a rat route and that efforts were being made to track him down.

On June 8, a second warrant of arrest was issued by the magistrate’s court after he failed to turn up for the remention of his case.

Jamal, who has released a number of videos since, denies he has fled the country.

He has also alleged that the police have been targeting him unfairly, at the behest of “certain powers”.
