Speedy property approvals – CM
SEPANGGAR: A soon-to-beformed state special committee is expected to expedite and make property development cheaper in Sabah, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Shafie said sole approvals through the Chief Minister will be a thing of the past as the new government decentralized the system.
“It is no longer the approval of the chief minister, there will be a special committee to give the approval. The process will be shortened and made easier so the development of property in Sabah can be implemented as fast as possible with a cost that will make it affordable for buyers,” he explained.
“Approval will be expedited and it will cost less and consume less time to ensure we can encourage more investment in the development of property in Sabah,” added Shafie at the Aidilfitri Open House hosted by Sepanggar Member of Parliament Datuk Azis Jamman at Grand Merdeka Mall here yesterday.
Also present at the event was Sabah Housing and Real Estates Association (Shareda) president Chew Sang Hai, who is also Grand Merdeka Development Sdn Bhd executive director.
Shafie will also look into the modifications needed to help lower the rental for commercial developments to attract both businesses and consumers to fill up Sabah’s shopping malls.
“If the rent is too high, it will burden renters,” he said.
“We will propose a grace period to encourage renters to this place (Grand Merdeka Mall). The period might not be long but maybe short to increase the participation of businesses in a place like this.
“A year or two before this, I find there are a lot of closure in terms of retail sector. Therefore, we must devise a system,” he added.
