List of GLCs to undergo overhaul soon

-

SEPANGGAR: Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal said the state government needs a little bit more time before revealing the name list of state governmentlinked companies (GLCs) that will be overhauled.

“In a little while there will be a change,” he responded when answering the press about the matter during Sepanggar Member of Parliament Datuk Azis Jamman’s Aidilfitri Open House at Grand Merdeka Mall here yesterday

“There is indeed (a name list). Please wait (for the announcement),” Shafie told reporters when asked whether the list is ready.

When it comes to the federal Human Resource Ministry policy of only recruiting local cooks in Malaysian restaurants effective January 2019, Shafie said Sabah must ensure that there are enough locals to fulfill the demand for Malaysian cooks in the state.

“If there are enough in terms of locals involved in the provision of jobs then that is the best,” he told the press.

“But in the meantime, we do not want to [see] that tomorrow, restaurant owners are dealing with the problem of getting local people.

“We should look in terms of practicality, in terms of his pragmatism to enable this sector to contribute not only to economic growth but even job opportunities to the locals.

“We can encourage our unemployed locals to work in as many existing restaurants as possible. But if we can’t, we need to deploy a way, what is the method or else it will be hard,” added the Chief Minister.
