MP to seek allocation to widen Sepanggar rivers

SEPANGGAR: Sepanggar MP Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman will seek a critical allocation needed to widen rivers in his often flood-stricken constituency.

Azis said he had been made to understand an allocation approved by the past government to widen a number of rivers and curb flash floods was stuck in the pipelines due to a change of Sabah government.

“I have been made to understand that the allocation to widen several rivers in this area has already been approved. It’s just that because there has been a change of government, the allocation has been put on hold,” said the Sepanggar MP, who is also expected to play a role in the yetto-be completed federal cabinet.

“God willing, I will meet with the Finance Minister and ask for the allocation synchronized because the allocation is really needed and critical.

“We are confident with the widening of these several rivers, the flood issue can be overcome in the Sepanggar area,” he added at his Aidilfitri Open House at Grand Merdeka Mall here yesterday.

In addition, Azis is looking to right the wrong in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP).

“We know KKIP is placed in this area, which should be an industrial place that offers and opens up job opportunities to the community, specifically in the Sepanggar area,” he said.

“I do not know what went wrong. KKIP is not as expected. Therefore, this is among the things we will look back to enable us to attract more investors, factories to open up job opportunities to young people especially in the Sepanggar area,” he added.

Besides that, Azis is also determined to resettle the 28,000 squatters within five years and resolve land issues in the Sepanggar constituency.
