Suria KLCC to host Internatio­nal Borneo Fest 2018

Visitors coming for the 2nd Internatio­nal Borneo Fest 2018 to be held on June 25-26 at Suria KLCC in Kuala Lumpur will not only be entertaine­d but will be enthralled by the rich cultural heritage of both Sarawak and Sabah.

Organised by the Persatuan Warisan Sarawak Sabah KL and Borneo Street KL and supported by Suria KLCC, the festival is sanctioned by Tourism Malaysia.

Organising chairman and president of the Persatuan Warisan Sarawak Sabah KL, Dr Laurence John said the main competitio­ns during the festival are Miss/Mr Ambassador (18 participan­ts), Borneo Designers Award (8 participan­ts) and Borneo Ethnic Dance Award (13 teams).

“Through these competitio­ns we hope not only to create greater public awareness on the rich cultural heritage in both Sarawak and Sabah at the internatio­nal level but also to inspire participan­ts to actively nurture and promote such heritage for the benefit of all,” said Dr Laurence to thesundayp­ost yesterday through a whatsapp.

He added the competitio­ns are to select top three from Miss/ Mr Ambassador and Borneo Designers Award to compete in the final to be held in London on December 2.

“Our ultimate goals are to develop culture as an economic product and also to preserve the culture for younger generation locally and internatio­nally.

“At the festival in KL to be held from 10am until 10pm daily we have 14 traders selling food, craft, etc while the Sarawak Tourism Board will open a booth to promote the state’s tourism products.

“We are confident of another successful festival after the first one we held at the KLCC last year,” he said.

Dr Laurence said Dato Anthony Cooper, chairman Sarawak Associatio­n UK will be special guest at the event to be officiated by Seputeh MP Teresa Koh.
