Noraini, Asryaf Wajdi, Zahida elected leaders of Umno wings

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno yesterday announced the names of the party wings new leaders with Parit Sulong Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad as its new Wanita leader.

The party’s executive secretary, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, told a media conference last night that former deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki was elected the party’s Youth chief and Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan won the post of the Puteri leader.

He said delegates from 191 Umno divisions voted to elect the leaders for the three party wings in conjunctio­n with the party’s divisional delegates meeting.

Noraini , who is Parit Sulong Wanita Umno leader, defeated the movement’s incumbent vicechief Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun and its former leader Tan Sri Dr Siti Zaharah Sulaiman to replace Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil for the top post.

The movement’s vice-chief post was won by Penang Wanita Umno leader Datuk Norliza Abdul Rahim.

As for Asyraf Wajdi, he defeated eight other contenders for the Youth chief post, which was previously held by former Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The post of Umno vice-chief was won by the movement’s Informatio­n chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan.

Zahida, who is the new Puteri Umno leader and the movement’s former vice-chief, won the post in a straight fight with the exco member Nor Hazreena Mohamad Hashim, while the vice-chief post was won by Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi.-Bernama
