TAIPEI: Hong Kong singer Eason Chan won the Album of the Year, the biggest award at the Golden Melody Awards in Taipei Saturday, with his album “C’mon In”.

“Thank you for the huge support and encouragement,” Chan said during his acceptance speech.

He also picked up an award in the category of best Mandarin male vocalist.

“This has been an amazing night,” Chan said, thanking his fans in Taiwan and the world.

The album was competing against 19 other titles for Album of the Year, regardless of whether it’s in Mandarin, Taiwanese, Hakka or indigenous languages.

Taiwanese singer-songwriter Lala Hsu took the Best Album in Mandarin with her album “The Inner Me”.

This was her second major win following her award for best Mandarin female vocalist that day.

Receiving her award, Hsu thanked the judges, fellow nominees and her fans.

“The award has been a huge encouragement,” she said, while also thanking those involved in the production of her latest album.

Hsu’s music is known for its subtle, unique narrative lyrical composition style, integrating elements of Taiwanese opera into her songs.

“The Inner Me” is Hsu’s fifth Mandarin studio album. It was released by Asiamuse in December last year.

Among awards also given out that night were best female vocalist won by Taiwanese Elly Chang, and best male vocalist went to Taiwanese Ricky Hsiao.
