JOHOR BAHRU: The Regency Specialist Hospital in Bandar Seri Alam, Johore, will construct a RM160 million hospital, scheduled for completion in 2021, to meet the growing demand for private hospitals.

Regency Specialist Hospital is owned and operated by Singapore’s HMI Ltd.

HMI Ltd Managing Director Chin Wei Jia said the new building would take shape on a 4.45 hectare plot of land which was located behind the main hospital building.

“Construction will begin within a year and we estimate it to be ready in 2021.

“The new building will increase the hospital’s capacity from 218 to 500 beds, making Regency the largest hospital in Iskandar Malaysia.

“With the new building, we will have more wards, rooms, operation theatres, intensive care units, clinics and also more space for our radiology unit, as well as, expand our accident and emergency unit,” she told reporters at the hospital’s rebranding ceremony and Hari Raya open house yesterday.

In a related development, Chin said the number of foreign patients at the hospital was rising.

“Apart from Regency, HMI Ltd also owns and operates the Mahkota Medical Centre in Melaka.

“Currently, about 25 per cent of the patients in both hospitals are foreigners and we expect the number to increase,” she added. — Bernama
