Zahid is new Umno president
KUALA LUMPUR: Bagan Datuk Umno Division chief Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid has been elected as the new party president, according to the latest status in the Twitter account of of the Umno polls 2018 conducted by the party’s election secretariat yesterday.
“Officially Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi @Zahid_Hamidi is the seventh Umno president.
“Congratulations to carrying out the job to Datuk Seri. for the sake of religion, race and country.” said the posting on the Twitter account.
In the party’s election yesterday, Ahmad Zahid, who was previously party’s vice-president executing the duties of party president, obtained 93 votes, ahead of the two main challengers, namely former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar who garnered 51 votes and Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (23 votes).
For the post of deputy president, Rembau Umno Division chief and Negeri Sembilan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan was elected defeating his challenger Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
“Officially Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan @ tokmatn9 is the new Umno deputy president. Good luck to Datuk Seri in your new job. For the sake of religion, race and country,” according to the twitter account.
The contest for the three vicepresident posts saw Bera MP Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob currently leading with 16 votes, followed by Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani (15 votes), Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (14 votes) and Datuk Seri Mohamad Khaled Nordin (13 votes).
The number of votes were recorded as of 8.30 pm.
