Teachers should also be creative — CM
KOTA KINABALU: Quality of teachers is an important indicator to ensure the transformation of education system is on the right track to produce citizens with borderless mindset yet maintain their identity as Malaysian.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie Apdal said it was important that our teachers were not only trained and dedicated, but were also creative and innovative for national development and progress.
“With quality teachers, we will be able to produce knowledgeable human capital who possess good character,” Shafie said in a speech delivered on his behalf by Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Junz Wong at the Chinese Education Night cum Launching of Sabah Chinese Schools Educational Association here on Sunday.
The event also saw the presentation of awards to teachers who have served for more than 20 years in their profession and students who have shown outstanding academic and extracurricular performance.
Shafie said the State Government would always support any parties who organized such programmes that appreciated and recognized the contribution of teachers.
He also urged teachers to carry out their duty with dedication and refrain from being involved in activities that were inappropriate to the teaching profession.
Meanwhile, organizing chairman Datuk Alex Lo said the Sabah Chinese Primary Schools Working Committee was established in 1982 and was part of the United Association of Private Chinese Secondary School Committees Sabah (Sabah Dong Zong).
Nonetheless, the association decided to register with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) under the name Sabah Chinese Schools Educational Association last year.
“To date, Sabah has 83 Chinese schools and 35,668 pupils, 58 per cent of whom are bumiputeras.”
He added that the dinner on Sunday was sponsored by a local oil and gas company, Hyperware Systems Engineering Sdn Bhd.
Also present at the event were Minister of Education and Innovation Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob and Sabah Chinese Schools Educational Association pro tem chairman Datuk William Chu.
