Police to get Jamal extradited
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian police are coordinating with their Indonesian counterparts, POLRI, to extradite arrested fugitive Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos to Malaysia for legal action to be taken against him.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, in a statement here yesterday, also confirmed that POLRI had informed them of Jamal’s arrest.
The Umno Sungai Besar Division chief, who had gone missing for over a month, was detained by POLRI at 6.15 pm on Monday.
Jamal, 48, reportedly went missing after being charged at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital on May 25 for causing a public nuisance by smashing beer bottles with a hammer in front of the main gate of the Selangor State Secretariat Building on Oct 5 last year.
He is also under investigation for several other cases, including the Firearms Act 1960.
Meanwhile, in Jakarta, National Police spokesman Insp Gen Setyo Wasisto said they were looking to send Jamal back to Malaysia as soon as possible.
He said Jamal was not found to have committed any crime in Indonesia so far, and that he was only wanted by the Malaysian authorities.
