Car stolen in Lawas recovered in Sabah, duo arrested

LAWAS: Police arrested two men in Kota Kinabalu and recovered a car reported stolen near a hotel here on Sunday.

District police chief DSP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the suspects, aged 31 and 37 from Penampang, Sabah were arrested by his men in separate locations early Tuesday morning.

“The 31-year-old suspect was nabbed at the carpark of an apartment around 3.15am after he entered the vehicle and started the engine.

“We followed up the arrest by apprehendi­ng the second suspect around 5am at a house in Penampang,” he told the press here yesterday.

Abang Zainal added that a scuffle broke out during the arrest of the second suspect after he attacked policemen while trying to evade capture.

The car belonged to a 58-yearold from Kampung Sualai who discovered it missing around 2.15pm.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.

In a separate case, Abang Zainal Abidin revealed that five labourers were arrested in Sundar on Tuesday for drug abuse.

He said the suspects, aged 28 to 41, tested positive for methamphet­amine and amphetamin­e and were also found to be in possession of 0.35 grammes of Syabu.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 12(2) of the same Act.
