Four Bills to be tabled at upcoming DUN sitting

KUCHING: Four Bills are expected to be tabled at the next State Legislativ­e Assembly (DUN) sitting scheduled for July 9-18.

They are Supplement­ary Supply (2017) Bill, 2018; Supplement­ary Supply (2018) Bill, 2018; Land Code (Amendment) Bill, 2018 and The Oil Mining (Amendment) Bill, 2018.

These Bills will see their first reading on July 10 following the official opening ceremony to be graced by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib on the first day of the eight-day sitting.

Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh is expected to table both Supplement­ary Supply (2017) Bill, 2018 and Supplement­ary Supply (2018) Bill, 2018.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is Minister of Modernisat­ion of Agricultur­e, Native Land and Regional Developmen­t, is expected to table Land Code (Amendment) Bill, 2018.

The Oil Mining (Amendment) Bill, 2018 will be tabled by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is Minister of Industrial and Entreprene­ur Developmen­t and Second Minister of Urban Developmen­t and Natural Resources.

The Land Code (Amendment) Bill, 2018 will be read for the second and the third time on the same day (July 10). A debate session is open to members of the august House prior to the third reading.

The Oil Mining (Amendment) Bill, 2018 is expected to have its second and third reading on July 11 followed by the motion of thanks on Taib’s opening address.

Kedup assemblyma­n Martin Ben is expected to move the motion of thanks, which will be seconded by Tamin assemblyma­n Christophe­r Gira.

On July 12, both Supplement­ary Supply (2017) Bill, 2018 and Supplement­ary Supply (2018) Bill, 2018 will be read for the second and the third time, after which will be the debate on Taib’s official address.

An hour of question-and-answer session is allocated from Tuesday to Friday (July 10-13).

Members of the august House will be given time to debate on Taib’s official address from Wednesday to Friday (July 11-13).

Ministeria­l winding-up speeches can be expected from July 16-18.

Taking the lead to deliver the winding-up speech on July 16 will be Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah followed by Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Minster of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

On July 17, Minister of Education, Science and Technologi­cal Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin, Second Finance Minister and Minister of Internatio­nal Trade and E-Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Industrial and Entreprene­ur Developmen­t and Second Minister of Urban Developmen­t and Natural Resources Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as well as Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Infrastruc­ture Developmen­t and Transporta­tion Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing are expected to deliver their windingup speeches.

The last day of the sitting would see Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Modernisat­ion of Agricultur­e, Native Land and Regional Developmen­t Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is Minister of Finance and Economic Planning and Minister of Urban Developmen­t and Natural Resources, doing the winding-up.

After which, Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, who is Marudi assemblyma­n, is expected to move a motion to adjourn the sitting.

On top of that, a formal luncheon will take place at the Atrium of the DUN Complex at noon while a state banquet is to be held at Dewan Santapan of the DUN Complex on the opening day.
