MaGIC still under MoF purview — CEO

-

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) is still under the purview of the Finance Ministry (MoF), said MaGIC’s chief executive officer Ashran Ghazi.

“At the moment, we are still under the MoF and have not got any other indication,” he told a press conference here yesterday when asked about the status of the organisation.

He had earlier attended the MaGIC IDEA (Impact-Driven Enterprise Accreditation) Accelerator Programme.

Asked about the appointment of the new MaGIC chairman, Ashran said: “We are (still) awaiting the cue from the (Finance) Ministry.”

On May 14, former Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah and MaGIC chairman was transferred out of his positions.

Meanwhile, Ashran said MaGIC would continue to help empower local social entrepreneurs in cultivating Malaysia’s impact driven sector.

He said MaGIC IDEA is another programme focused exclusively on building local social enterprises.

It is aimed at providing earlystage impact driven enterprises (IDEs) and social enterprises (SEs) with the opportunity to pilot their ideas, strengthen business models, solidify the impact delivery models and secure capital through fundraising using innovative strategies.

“We are seeing a rise in the number of entrepreneurs in the business making an impact on society or the environment and have been greatly encouraged by the number of driven changemakers here in Malaysia.

“We hope participants in the IDEA Accelerator Programme will play a pivotal role in Malaysia’s larger transformation journey.

“By driving growth in the impact driven sector, MaGIC seeks to help balance economic growth with environmental protection and the betterment of society, while supporting Malaysia in contributing to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals,” Ashran said.
