Osram to expand business portfolio in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: LED chip producer, Osram Opto Semiconductor (M) Sdn Bhd (Osram Malaysia), plans to expand its business portfolio by venturing into advanced LED technologies, said chief executive officer, Roland Mueller.
He said the new technologies, among others, high-end pixelised lighting for the future in cars, enables drivers to see further and better,as well as optoelectronics and electrical sensors.
“The company is also eyeing micropixelised displays, a technology that offers high pixel density to increase sharpness. These areas are hugely interesting and the technologies are not there yet,” he told a press conference after donating Osram Malaysia equipment to four local universities here yesterday.
The universities are Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Perlis.
The equipment, used in the photonics and semiconductor fabrication technology field and worth RM2.4 millionl, would be utilised to provide hands-on educational experience for students interested in joining the high-tech industry.
It will also help the universities develop research and development labs without creating additional capital investments.
On Osram Malaysia’s business outlook, Mueller was optimistic over the market and projected growth this year, despite the unfavourable macroeconomics.
