KOTA KINABALU: EuroAtlantic made the lives of three Korean Strawberry Contest winners in Sabah sweeter with the latest mobile phone and imported First Pick fruit product prizes at Everrise in Imago Mall here yesterday.

Consumers only had to purchase two packets of First Pick Maehyang strawberries and complete a slogan on “Why they like Korean Strawberries to enter in the contest that ran between March 1 and April 30, 2018”.

Euro-Atlantic, Malaysia's biggest importer of exotic fruits that ships in more than 150 tonnes of Korean strawberries a year, received a great deal of interesting and catchy slogans.

“This is the first year we are doing (it) in Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and Sandakan after receiving an overwhelming response from the consumers in Peninsular Malaysia where we have to run the contest for the third time,” said Euro-Atlantic Sdn Bhd managing director Ebby K C Loo.

“We wish to thank AT Center and all of you for the support in making this contest possible. Through their cooperation, we are able to bring into Malaysia, the delicious and sweet Maehyang strawberries from Korea.

“Every year, we witness an increase in the number of Malaysian consumers' awareness of Korean produce as a result of the past Korean fresh produce promotions and events,” she revealed.

Compared to other strawberries, Maehyang strawberries are generally of higher quality, but are more difficult to cultivate. They are also greenhouse-grown and healthier with less pesticide used in its cultivation.

Maehyang strawberries are regarded as the “Queen of Vitamin” in Korea because of their appealing soft flesh and sweet taste, and their higher vitamin C content.

“Korean strawberries are seeing a steady rise in demand compared to strawberries from other parts of the world. There has been an increase of 20-30% every year,” explained Ebby during the prize giving ceremony at the mall here yesterday.

Nera Niza Masri brought home the grand prize of Samsung Galaxy Note FE for her “Because it [korean strawberry] has that sweet juicy taste that is irresistible to me!” slogan, whilst Yeo Siok San and Cheah Siew Yee bagged the Samsung Galaxy A8 and Samsung Galaxy J7 respectively.

Yeo and Cheah completed their slogans with “Maehyang strawberry variety is popular in South East Asian countries due to its attractive colour, good texture and sweet taste” and “Because of its well-balanced sweetness, texture and freshness” respectively.

Euro-Atlantic also gave away bags of First Pick imported fruits to the public during the event.

According to Euro-Atlantic (Sabah) Sdn Bhd general manager Foo Sai Tong, the Maehyang strawberry only grows between November and April in Korea.

He said Euro-Atlantic took great care in keeping their fruits fresh for consumers in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau.
