SAFA sets Annual Congress for Aug 11

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Football Association (SAFA) is scheduled to hold its Annual Congress on August 11.

Among the main agendas will be to fill four vacancies including for president after the incumbent, former chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman, resigned from the position earlier.

Other positions that need to be filled were two slots for deputy president, previously held by Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan and Datuk Lawrence Gimbang, and a vice president position that was vacated by Harun Ismail.

Lawrence and Harun resigned, while Tawfiq passed away in March.

SAFA Secretary-General Alijus Sipil said this when met by reporters after the SAFA Extraordinary Congress chaired by the President, Datuk Yusof Kassim, here on Saturday.

He said the Amendment to Article 27 of the SAFA Constitution, which was to enable SAFA to hold a Regular Congress within 14 days of issuing notice compared to 90 days, had been approved at the Extraordinary Congress.

It was the second Extraordinary Congress after the first one was overturned by the Sports Commissioner for lacking quorum.

“Today we have quite a quorum...a total of 35 delegates from 22 affiliates attending. For the record, we have 26 affiliates all over Sabah,” Alijus said.

“The amendment to the Constitution that was approved at the Extraordinary Congress today (Saturday) allows SAFA to hold the 2018 Annual Congress. It will be held on August 11, 2018 and we will announce the venue later.

“Apart from the presentation of activities ending 2017 and last year’s financial statements 2017, we will also hold elections to fill the vacancy of the four main posts of the association,” he said.

Alijus said the affiliates may submit nominations for all the posts addressed to the Secretariat or SAFA Center by July 28, two weeks before the congress.
