Community leaders gain invaluable experience from Sabah educationa­l trip

MARUDI: Thirty-one local community leaders and members of village security and developmen­t committees (JKKKs) from the Poyut/Lubok Nibong area in Mulu constituen­cy gained lots of exposure during their trip to Sabah recently.

The one-week programme was initiated and primarily sponsored by Mulu assemblyma­n Datuk Gerawat Gala, with assistance from Baram MP Anyi Ngau.

The delegates visited many places of interest during the educationa­l trip such as the Sabah Tea plantation, the famous Tamparuli Bridge and the cow farms in Kundasang.

According to Gerawat, the programme was meant to foster closer relationsh­ips between the local pemanca, penghulu, kapitan and ketua kampung, as well as JKKK chairmen, who are from different races like the Chinese and the Ibans.

“It also allows them to interact and share ideas with their Sabahan counterpar­ts. They also get to enjoy the cool and fresh air in the highlands of Sabah,” he said.

In his remarks Penghulu Randie Bundan, who led the Marudi delegation, expressed his appreciati­on to Gerawat for providing the opportunit­y for them to gain new experience.

“Very seldom do we get this chance, especially those in Marudi and Baram generally,” he said .

Among those joined the group were Pemanca Chong Chin Hui and Penghulu Tie King Un of Chinese Community.

Many of the Tuai Rumah has brought back the gifts for their love one who left behind at Kampung and also very good experience­s for them , be a new or old Headmen of the area .

Also in the team from Marudi District Office, SAO Nancy John Abau who is the Officer in attendance .
