Remand on babysitter extended for seven days

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selayang Magistrate’s Court here yesterday extended for another seven days the remand order on a woman in connection with the death of a five-monthold baby, Adam Rayqal Mohd Sufi.

The extension of remand order issued by Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri will start tomorrow until July 17.

The 33-year-old babysitter and another woman, aged 36, were remanded for a week last Wednesday to facilitate investigat­ions into the death of the baby. Their remand period will end yesterday.

Police confirmed that the 36-year-old woman would be released on police bail yesterday.

The boy was reported missing from the babysitter’s house last Tuesday. His body was found in the freezer compartmen­t of the fridge at the house by the police, late at night.

A post-mortem at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital revealed that Adam Rayqal had died due to severe head injuries from blunt force trauma.
