KOTA KINABALU: The 5th UGKK Inter-Church Basketball Tournament will be held at the Kota Kinabalu Community Hall on August 14-29.

A spokesman from the Under God Kota Kinabalu committee said the annual tournament would feature a special threeday grand final to be at the sports complex indoor arena in Likas from August 30 to September 1.

"Two international teams will be featured in exhibition matches with local all-star teams at the grand finals.

"The event also features a slam dunk performance by David Carlos. The Filipino player was invited here by Marlins, a local team taking part in the competition," the spokesman said yesterday.

According to the organisers, there would be many more showcases and engagements during the championship as they had targeted a turnout of 2000 spectators for each day of the grand finals.

Meanwhile, UGKK thanked Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai for supporting the tournament.

"With the support from Datuk Yeo from the aspect of court rental and props facilities, our annual flagship project, which is the UGKK Inter-Church Basketball Championship, will hopefully be another successful edition," he said.

UGKK took the chance to thank Yeo in person during a courtesy call at the latter's office, recently.
