KOTA KINABALU: An unemployed man was fined RM400, in default, eight months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to threatening his wife at knife point.

Rahim Anni, 35, who appeared before magistrate Afiq Agoes, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The accused admitted to threatening his 32-year-old wife at an unnumbered squatter house at Kampung Suang Parai in Manggatal at 11.30pm on June 24.

In pleading for a lenient sentence, the accused, who was represented by counsel Jaikol Situn, claimed that the incident occurred due to a misunderstanding between both them, causing him to lose control of himself and threatened his wife.

The counsel said that his client has five kids aged between four and 10 to support for.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Lim Swee Beng prosecuted.
