Six illegals jailed

KOTA KINABALU: Five men and a woman were jailed for four months each by the Sessions Court here yesterday for entering the state illegally.

Judge Azreena Aziz imposed the sentences on Mohamad Hasan, Angelou Tilad, Anuar Bensali, Al Munib Balahim, Ajlan Muksan and Fetimah Jenilyn after they pleaded guilty to each of their charge under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigratio­n Act 1959/63.

The indictment carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to five years or to both and also liable to whipping of not more than six strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

They were arrested near the city here, Kudat and Papar during separate operations between May 28 and July 7.

The court also ordered the men to be whipped once while Fetimah was spared.

All of the accused will serve jail term from their date of arrest and to be referred to the Immigratio­n Department for their biometrics data to be recorded before being deported to their country.
