Indonesian man charged with using forged letter of authorization
KOTA KINABALU: An Indonesian man has claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday after being charged with using a forged letter of authorization as genuine to facilitate his departure to Peninsular Malaysia.
The accused, Ruddin Asis, 51, who appeared before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, was charged under Section 471, publishable under Section 465 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
The accused, represented by counsel Farazwin Haxdy, was arrested for allegedly attempting to use the forged letter at the domestic departure hall of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here at 8 am on June 19.
The court fixed today for remention of his case pending a verification of his identification document from the National Registration Department for his bail application.
In yesterday’s proceedings, the accused was denied bail following an objection by prosecuting officer, Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit, on the grounds that the accused only held temporary identification document.
