Two fish bombing suspects held, boat and 32kg fish seized

LAHAD DATU: A marine police team here apprehende­d two suspected fish bombers and seized their boat and about 32 kilograms of fish believed caught as a result of having been bombed.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) commander, DCP Datuk Hazani Ghazali, said the suspects were detained in the waters off Katung Kalungan at about 5.00 pm on Wednesday.

Hazani said a marine police team carried out surveillan­ce under Ops Landai in the area upon receiving informatio­n on fish bombing activities.

“The team later raided a boat and upon inspection of the boat found about 32 kilograms of fish believed to have been caught through fish bombing activities by the suspects.

“The suspects and the seized boat and catch were later taken to the marine police base for further action,” he said.

According to Hazani, the boat’s skipper had admitted to catching fish using bomb which they obtained from Kunak.

He added that the suspects and the seizures were handed to the Fisheries Department for further action.
