SIA members bring Raya joy to senior citizens
KOTA KINABALU: Members of the Sandakan Indian Association (SIA) and youngsters from Kelab Tenis Remaja Sandakan (KTRS) organised a Hari Raya celebration for residents of the Sandakan Old Folks Home recently.
Led by President Taren Sunil Manoharan, Vice-President Nor Aslam Mano Bin Abdullah and Secretary Jocelyn Lee as well as other committee members, the SIA members together with their families brought along goodies as well as some daily necessities for the senior citizens at the home.
“It is good to instil in children the spirit of love and care for the elderly and those less fortunate in our society,” said Taren Sunil, who like most of the other members, brought along their children to celebrate with the residents at the home.
They also arranged lunch for everyone.
Taren Sunil also thanked the staff and workers for helping to make the Hari Raya function a success.
“Caring for the old and needy, including many bedridden cases, is truly a very challenging job. My appreciation goes to those working at the home there,” he said.
“The care-givers are doing a wonderful job of upkeep of the place and at the same time taking good and loving care of the residents,” he added with admiration.
The association has incorporated visits and contributions to charity homes as well as well as other community-related programmes as a regular part of their social activities.
“I am always delighted to see our members being very supportive of our social activities. They not only allocate their time but also contribute from their own pockets to support our community services,” Taren Sunil concluded.
