Andrian Alang finish on top in Montfort Charity Golf Tourney

KOTA KINABALU: Andrian Alang emerged as the winner of the 12th Montfort Charity Golf Tournament which concluded at the Sabah Golf and Country Club here yesterday.

Andrian scored 42 points to win on countback after ousting 118 other players in the Stableford System 36 format tournament.

He walked away with the Men’s Nett category top prize of RM800 which was presented to him by guest of honour Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.

Also present was Datuk Margaret Fung, Chiang Wei Chia, Datuk Kamal Quadra, Datuk James Wong and organising committee members, among others.

Chai Nam Khiam and John Erison clinched second and third place to receive RM700 and RM600 respective­ly. Chai also scored 42 points while John scored 41.

The C Medal category saw Kenny Yong Haw Ngen emerge top with 41 points, while Alvin Chong was second on 39 points, followed by Heng Kok Keong in third place.

The B Medal saw Andrew Yap emerge winner with 40 points, while Datuk Joannes Solidau was second on 37 (OCB) and Richard Chua was third, also on 37 points.

Puney Kiob won the A Medal category with 38 points, while Charles Wong clinched second with 36, followed by Hoo Lik Tee in third on 33.

The annual tournament, which was aimed at raising funds for the operations and activities of the Montfort Youth Trining Centre, also featured a Senior category which was won by Jusli Potoh (40 points-OCB).

Christophe­r Lau was second, also on 40 points, while Alan Loke was the luckiest player of the day and finished third on 38 points. Alan also won a novelty prize for ‘Nearest to the Pin’ (at Hole No. 17) and a lucky draw prize. On top of that, he also won RM545 in the Bull’s Eye.

The other winner in the Bull’s Eye was Kuck Cheang Huei. He also won the ‘Nearest to the Pin’ at Hole No. 8, while the five other winners were Puney Kiob (Hole No. 5), Dr Neil Hartstein (Hole No. 12), Yong Teck Chong (Hole No. 7) and Sim Chin Hak (Hole No. 11).

Tan Peng Juan won the ‘Longest Drive’ at Hole No. 7.

Meanwhile, organising chairman Willie Wong thanked all the players for taking part in the tournament. He also recorded his appreciati­on to all the sponsors for their continued support.

Special thanks also went to Datuk Aloysius Tan of TMBC Sdn Bhd, who made a generous contributi­on of RM10,000 to the Montfort Youth Training Centre.
