THE Management & Science University (MSU) is one of Malaysia’s top universities and focuses strongly in the critical areas of studies that encompass Medicine, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Information Sciences & Engineering, Business Management & Professional Studies, Education & Social Sciences and Hospitality & Culinary and Music & Fashion.

MSU’s involvement in the medical education areas is an initiative towards complimenting the nation’s need for qualified medical personnels in Malaysia and the region.

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a 5 year programmeoffered through the International Medical School (IMS) at the MSU main campus in Shah Alam and its off-shore campus in Bangalore, India, which is Malaysia’s first medical school to receive a five year accreditation from the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).

In addition, MSU’s MBBS programme is recognized by Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and Maldives Medical and Dental Council (MMDC).

The MSU’s MBBS curriculum is designed in adherence to the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) guidelines and approval by MMC.

The MBBS programme presents a continually expanding level of medical experiences. This programme is delivered through three phases, namely Phase 1 (Year 1), Phase 2 (Year 2) and Phase 3 (Years 3, 4 and 5).

Both Phases 1 and 2 are delivered through system-based modules. Phase 3 is conducted through disciplinebased postings in: Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatric, Psychiatry, Primary Care, Orthopaedic and Emergency Medicine.

In the first and second year, student understanding of basic medical sciences is strengthened in preparation for the upcoming years.

In year three, the focus is on developing basic clinical skills and knowledge. The fourth year is an introduction to the different specialties in medicine. Year five concentrates on consolidating clinical skills with knowledge.

In comparison to many medical schools in Malaysia, one of the key features of MSU’s MBBS programme is the emphasis on clinical communication skills and early clinical contact visit to medical practices, community care facilities and hospitals.

MSU focuses on developing a qualified medical doctor who excels academically but portrays commendable soft skill as well through involvement in various community services. This is hoped to ensure a long term continuous effort from MSU towards the nations’ objectives in health care and services.

MSU medical students also have the opportunity to complete their clinical training at two major referral hospitals in Malaysia, namely the Sungai Buloh Hospital and the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.

In addition, with the completion of the MSU Medical Centre, MSU will be the first private university with its own teaching hospital for use in clinical training of its medical students.

Upon completion, a student has to register with the Public Service Department and completes a two year housemanship programme at selected public hospitals under the supervision of the Ministry of Health of Malaysia.

The upcoming intakes for MBBS programme is on September, qualified students are required to sit for the Medical Entry Test (MET)at the MSU campus in Shah Alam to determine their aptitude for the MBBS programme.
