CHOOSING the right higher education institution for your child can be a tough challenge given how saturated the market is.

When it comes to quality, affordability, and pointing your child towards the best future, the University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) is a trusted mark of academic excellence and a starting point for a fruitful career. UoRM is the first international campus of the University of Reading in the UK.

It is located in EduCity, in the heart of the fast developing economic region known as Iskandar Puteri in Johor, and a short drive from the Malaysia – Singapore Second Link.

EduCity comprises several universities and institutes of higher education, research and development centres, student accommodation and recreational and sports facilities, and is the only dedicated education hub in Malaysia.

The University of Reading has a rich heritage dating back over 150 years and in 2016, it celebrated its 90th anniversary as a university in its own right.

Together with the worldleading Henley Business School, which has been operating for over 70 years, it is proud to have a long-established international reputation for the quality of its teaching and research and is ranked in the top 200 universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2018.

This means that students who study at UoRM can be assured that they will receive an excellent British education, delivered by an international team of esteemed academics, most of whom are PhD holders and active in research.

UoRM is keen to attract the brightest and best students, as it does in the UK. Students at the Malaysia campus are eligible to apply for the Provost’s Award which provides a 100 per cent scholarship.

The University also offers a range of High Achiever’s Scholarships to reward students who perform well academically.

The University of Reading Malaysia offers students the chance to complete a prestigious British degree in Malaysia at only a fraction of the cost of studying in the UK.

Students are also given the opportunity to complete part of their degree at the UK campus in Reading. This means getting a quality, British degree with UK study experience is more flexible, accessible and affordable than ever before.

Prospective students can fast-track their way to an undergraduate degree with a foundation programme in either business or science, then progress to an undergraduate in either real estate, finance and business management, management and business, accounting and finance, quantity surveying, building surveying, construction management, pharmacy, or psychology.

Students who wish to excel in Islamic finance now have the opportunity to complete a Master’s in Investment Banking at Islamic Finance at UoRM.

The programmes taught at the University of Reading Malaysia have the same content as those delivered at the UK campus, meaning students from UoRM who wish to study part of their degree in the UK, can do so with ease.

Students who take advantage of the University of Reading Malaysia’s mobility programme by studying part of their degree at the UK campus, will become enriched and well-rounded individuals as they will meet and collaborate with peers from different walks of life, be introduced to different learning methods, experience different cultures and improve their spoken English.

One student who is getting valuable experience from studying at both campuses is 21 year-old Yeow Zhi Qi, who has just completed her second year of the MPharm 2+2 degree at UoRM.

In September, she will begin her third year of studies at the UK campus. According to Yeow, who was elected as UoRM’s first student welfare officer, says the pharmacy degree enables her to pursue a career in the healthcare sector and fulfil her passion for helping people who suffer from health issues.

Another reason to choose the University of Reading Malaysia is the opportunity to gain an internationally renowned degree fromHenley Business School, which is part of UoRM.

Henley Business School isamong the world’s most elite business schools and is one of only a few in Asia holding triple accreditations from the Association of MBAs (AMBA), EMFD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Students who choose to study at Henley Business School will become part of a global, distinguished learning community of independent thinkers and opinion leaders and graduates will have a competitive advantage when vying for top jobs in leading multinational companies.

One such student is Chee Wei Lim, who has recently completed a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Business Management and will graduate this July.

The 25 year-old, who was the first student president to be elected at UoRM, credits her lecturers for giving Turn to Page A10. Col. 1 her the platform to develop her critical thinking skills as well as hone her abilities in debating and research.

She says the stunning campus has also been the ideal place to study.

“Trading Simulation has been one of my favourite modules where I have been able to learn about the operation of the stock market and different trading theories. The facilities in the state-of-the-art Dealing Room are well-equipped and have enabled me to study and trade in a comfortable environment.”

Students can apply now for a foundation programme (starting 3rd September) or an undergraduate or postgraduate programme (starting 24th September) or make an application during an Open Day.
