Angkasa aims to set up motoring cooperative by year end
SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian National Cooperative Movement Berhad (Angkasa) is targeting opening a motoring cooperative with at least 5,000 members, by the end of this year.
Angkasa president Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah said there were motoring clubs in the country which were keen to establish cooperatives for the benefit of the club members.
“This is a positive start, like the Raiders Motoring Club of Malaysia with 3,000 to 5,000 members informed me that they are keen to set up their own cooperative.
“Of course I welcome this, and assure that Angkasa will provide guidance and advice including helping to register their cooperative under the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia,” he told reporters here.
He said this after attending the launch of ‘Rakan Sukarelawan Koperasi Malaysia’ organised by Angkasa, Raiders Motoring Club and RTM Bikers Club on Saturday night.
Abdul Fattah said they viewed the existence of a motoring cooperative as not only benefiting its members but also the motor industry in Malaysia.
“With the establishment of the cooperative, members will get returns when various economic activities are carried out.
“This includes opening business premises selling high-powered motorcycles and motorcycle repair centres, which will certainly offer more affordable prices to members as they are managed by their own organisation,” he said.
