Man jailed for trying to steal wires, threatenin­g shop supervisor

KOTA KINABALU: A man was jailed for a total of 32 months by the Magistrate’s Court here for two counts of trying to steal wires from a building and threatenin­g a supervisor of a car accessorie­s shop, who saw him trying to commit the offence.

Robert Chung, 36, who pleaded guilty to both the offences before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, was ordered to serve the jail terms concurrent­ly.

On the first count, the accused was sentenced to 16 months in jail for attempting to steal the wires on second floor of the building in Putatan on March 14.

The offence was framed under Section 379, read together with Section 511, both of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail of three and a half years or a fine, upon conviction.

The accused was again jailed for another 16 months for his second count of threatenin­g the 26-year-old man, who witnessed the accused’s attempt to take the wires at the same time and place.

The accused, who made the the verbal threat to the victim who chased after the former, was convicted under Section 506 of the Penal Code which is punishable by a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

In an unrelated case, a man was jailed for two weeks by the same court here for possessing three bars of chocolates believed stolen items.

Ilham Nasim Hiew Abdullah, 43, was arrested for possessing the food which he failed to explain where he got the food from outside of a shop at a shopping complex here on July 11.

The charge was under Section 22A of the Minor Offences Ordinance (80 Chapter) which carries a maximum fine of RM100 or a jail term of up to three months or both, upon conviction.
