City Hall Tourism Committee takes ‘Free Walking Tour’ of KK City

KOTA KINABALU: Members of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) Tourism Committee participat­ed in a ‘Free Walking Tour’ organised by the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) here for foreign and domestic tourists yesterday.

The journey which started from the City Hall building compound was attended by about 30 people led by City Hall Tourism Committee chairperso­n, Datuk Nancy Ho, along with representa­tives from Sabah Associatio­n Of Tour And Travel Agents (SATTA), Malaysia Handicraft Developmen­t Corporatio­n, Sabah Tourism Developmen­t, Culture and Environmen­t, Sabah Tourism Institute, Sabah Institute of Developmen­t Studies (IDS), Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, Town and Regional Planning Department, and Sabah Art Gallery.

The two-hour journey started at the Gaya Street where the participan­ts visited and judged the mural paintings made by the participan­ts of the 2K/3D Mural Painting Competitio­n in Kota Kinabalu City for public toilets around Kota Kinabalu City; the 15 ‘bin centres’ around Gaya Street, Atkinson Clock Tower, Segama, Sinsuran, Asia City, the bus terminal around Berjaya Berjaya and Tanjung Lipat.

Cash prizes totaling RM8,500 await the winner of the Mural Painting Competitio­n with the first place winner bringing home RM3,500 together with a certificat­e .

The group then went through Gaya Street, Atkinson Clock Tower, climbed Segama’s pedestrian overhead bridge to see the local traders selling locally-made handicraft­s.

The journey then proceeded to the Sinsuran area and stopped at Kadaiku to see local handicraft­s.

Most of the participan­ts of the walk were happy and satisfied with the opportunit­y to participat­e in this journey even though they had to walk under the sun.
