RTM to have panel of assessors for Sabah, Sarawak productions

-

KOTA KINABALU: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) will set up a panel especially to evaluate the proposals from local producers for productions in Sabah and Sarawak, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said yesterday.

He said the panel of assessors would be from among the local people experienced in the field and who had extensive knowledge of the cultures and issues in Sabah and Sarawak.

“We have received proposals from producers, especially from Sabah and Sarawak, on many talents, especially young people, who can produce documentaries and short films in these states.

“Therefore, to highlight or promote these talents, we have to provide a platform for them to evaluate the proposals for the production of the documentaries or short films without having to refer to the peninsula because the panel of assessors is available here,” he said.

Gobind Singh spoke to reporters after a meeting with the staff of the ministry in Sabah.

The minister said the panel of assessors would decide whether the proposed documentaries or short films from the local producers could be produced or otherwise.

“We have received requests to increase the number of productions and shows of local documentaries or films over RTM and, with this effort (of having the panel of assessors), we can give the local producers the opportunity to showcase their talents.

“Every state has its different cultural values and local stories, so we can give the local producers a chance to produce their works, with funding from the ministry,” he said.
