GPS to sincerely cooperate with PH for Sarawakians’ welfare — Abg Jo

-

KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will sincerely work together with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership in the continued fight for Sarawak’s rights, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg.

He said the GPS government does not intend to fight PH, but will instead prioritise the welfare of the people.

Abang Johari said this was why Sarawak political parties had left Barisan Nasional (BN) to form GPS.

“In BN, we are tied by Parliament, meaning that whatever the decision made by BN must be supported by all parties and this is our weakness in fighting for Sarawak’s rights. Therefore, we formed GPS to enable us to make our own decisions,” he said during the Sarawak Malay Cultural Foundation Charitable Trust’s (AKYBMS) SAMArindok Aidilfitri 2018 on Thursday.

He said GPS will support PH policies that would benefit Sarawak, but not those that do not.

“This our stand because we want to fight for Sarawak’s rights and this is why we dare to amend the oil and gas laws. This is our approach ... alhamdulillah we will launch GPS soon.

“Thus, we know our direction, future, and this becomes our foundation to manage our development,” he said.

Abang Johari also said the government is ready to bear the RM5 million cost of building AKYBMS’ Wisma Melayu at Jalan Diplomatic near here.

“When the plan is completed and the construction works starts, the funding will be released,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister and AKYBMS board of trustees chairman Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan thanked Abang Johari for helping the trust realise its dream of building the complex.

“This project will be implemented before the year’s end, so we thank the Chief Minister for his support. I hope he will continue to support and help us for the benefit of the Malay community.”

Among those present were Abang Johari’s wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar and his wife Datin Amar Datuk Fatimah Mohamad Iskandar, Assistant Minister of ECommerce Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Assistant Minister of Coastal Road Datuk Julaihi Narawi, and AKYBMS general manager Datu Dr Sanib Said.
