KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will continue to serve as Deputy Prime Minister even if she is no longer the president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) should that be what her party desires.

“If my party still wants me to hold the DPM (Deputy Prime Minister) post in the Federal Government, they could table a motion. God willing, I will continue to hold the position,” she said.

Wan Azizah, who is also the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development and PKR president, said this when closing a seminar on PKR divisional annual general meeting (AGM) and party election for Sabah here yesterday.

She also thanked Sabah PKR for its strong support towards Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s nomination as the party president in the coming election.

Wan Azizah recently said that she would not contest for the party presidency if her husband is vying for the post.

As the ruling party, she urged her members to uphold PKR’s struggles in the upcoming party election and not to fight among each other for positions.

“We must not be divided into factions,” she advised.

Wan Azizah also denied claims that she and her deputy, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, were at odds with each other.

“We may have differences in opinions, but we are in the same party. We discuss matters in the cabinet because we want to do good in the government that we took over,” she said.

While members were at liberty to support any candidate, she advised them against forming factions.

“We must strengthen PKR, the party for the future,” she stressed.

Also present were PKR secretary general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Deputy Chief Minister cum PKR Sabah chief Christina Liew and Assistant Finance Minister cum PKR Inanam assemblyman Kenny Chua.
