Contractors warned to comply to standards, complete projects on time

-

KOTA KINABALU: Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony has once again warned contractors in the state to adhere to the required standards and to complete their projects within the stipulated time.

Peter stressed that failure to do so will result in the immediate termination of their contract, describing the move as part of the State Government’s new practice.

“The purpose of this is to ensure the smoothness and effectiveness in the implementation of projects, in accordance with the stipulated time given.

“We have also asked for guidelines from the Federal Government on the said issue,” Peter told reporters when met at the 25th Silver Jubilee anniversary of the Association of Consulting Engineers (ACEM) Sabah at Hakka Hall on Saturday night.

On a separate matter, Peter said a working paper had been initiated to look into the involvement of Borneo Highway PDP Sdn Bhd in the Pan Borneo Highway project.

Peter said he is of the opinion that the Public Works Department should have played a bigger role in the project as opposed to the consultant.

“We feel that there is a need for a reappraisal into this matter. This issue was also brought up in discussions with the Works Minister at the federal level,” Peter said.

Speaking on another matter, Peter also gave assurance that contractors involved in the installation of pipes in Kota Belud during the earthquake would be paid, if their claims have been validated.

Peter was at the event to officiate at the ceremony on behalf of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
